Alex Sanderson-Shortt MA, NCS (Prof Accred)
My journey to being a relationship and LGBT therapist in Northwich began with my early career as a bar manager in Manchester! This was a role that demanded I listen to strangers, some of whom wanted to tell me strange things. It also gave me lots of life experience. As a result of this, over 20 years ago, I started training as a counsellor.
I undertook a University Advanced Diploma in Relationship Therapy whilst working as a counsellor in training for Relate before passing my Masters in Relationship Therapy with distinction. My training is integrative which means I primarily use systemic and psychodynamic approaches. I like to use different approaches as it means I can flex the way I work to meet the needs of the client. The relationship between client and therapist is the most important factor in successful counselling, and that is why, as the client, you are always in charge.
I have worked successfully as a relationship therapist for Relate and in private practice since 2008. In my private practice I specialise in working with LGBTQ clients offering gay and lesbian counselling as well as for clients across the sexuality spectrum, however you define yourself. I work as a gender therapist in Northwich in my work with trans -identified and trans-historied clients.
I have regular supervision, am a member of the National Counselling Society and adhere to their Code of Ethics. I am fully insured to work as a private counsellor.
I have regular training and continuous professional development. As well as my UAD and Masters, I have a certificate in CBT skills and a Post Grad Diploma in Relationship Therapy for Gender and Sexual Diversity clients.
I work from a dedicated counselling room at home in Northwich as well as rooms in Chorlton, Manchester.
